I started showing in the early 1960’s with Labradors, then English Cocker Spaniels (my greatest love of dogs) making up many champions in solid and parti-colours, including specialty best in shows and all breeds.  Handled the record holding BIS winning Labrador of all time in NZ.  Two of these awards were won under Gwen Broadley (Sandilands Labradors) and Reg Gaddson.  I have also owned/handled English Springers, Irish Setters and Briards.

I have owned and shown Rough Coated Collies for 18 years making up many champions in all three colours, many being group and in-show winners.

I now own Weimaraners with my wife Pip, under the Carnmellis prefix, New Zealand’s foremost winning kennel with two out of the three Grand Champions in the breed being owned by us.  (To attain Grand Champion status in NZ, one has to win 50 CC’s and have three All Breeds Championship Show Best In Show wins under three different judges.)  We have bred and campaigned the first longhair champion in the breed in NZ (shown against shorthairs).  Specialty wins have been under UK and American Specialists and the German Breed Warden.

For a number of years we have been associated with and showing Dobermanns for a friend.

Gained All Breeds License in 1988 and have judged Best In Show All Breeds Championship Shows 45 times.  Since starting to judge at Championship Shows I have judged over 40,000 dogs in nine countries.

In 1996, I judged three shows in the USA, these being the Yankee Weimaraner Speciality; Part Gundogs, (English Cockers, English Springers, Clumbers, Field Spaniels, Irish Setters, German Shorthaired Pointers, German Wirehaired Pointers, Labradors and English Pointers); Part of the Herding Group including Best of Group; (Welsh Corgies, Cardigan Corgies, Old English and Belgium Shepherds) at Ladies and Framingham All Breeds Championship Shows.

In September 2003 I had a judging appointment at the Darlington Dog Show, England.  At this show I had a Club record entry of 195 Weimaraners.  I also judged Australian Terriers, Japanese Spitz, Schipperke, Bourvier, Leonbergers and Anatolians.

I have judged over 100 appointments in Australia which include Gundogs and Best In Show at the Canberra Royal (less English Cockers that were judged by Sylvia Bunting, UK).  400 Gundogs, 2,200 in total at the show. 

Other appointments in 2004 included All Breeds & BIS – Philippines KC, All Gundogs – South Korea (Seoul International Dog Show), All Breeds & BIS – Singapore KC.

In August 2006 I judged at Barrie Kennel Club in Ontario and at Manitoba Kennel Club in Winnipeg, Canada.  Also in 2006 I judged in Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand.

In 2007 I judged assorted appointments both in New Zealand and Australia.

In May 2008 I judged in Queensland doing Terriers, Hounds and BIS on one day then Gundogs and the Dobermann Specialty the next day.  In July 2008 I judged the Supreme Top Dog Award in Christchurch, NZ.

I have been a Mediator for the New Zealand Kennel Club and on the Waikato Disciplinary hearing Committee for the New Zealand Kennel Club.  At present I am the Waikato/BOP Area Delegate.
